What is Global Service Learning?
Global Service Learning is the opportunity for you to get involved in your community as a volunteer in a multi-cultural setting. There is 20-hour requirement for the completion of your certificate and this can be done in a variety of contexts. This also gives you an excellent way to establish a positive contact in the Milwaukee community, that may later give you an internship, scholarship or employment opportunity.
Suggested Timeline:
Freshman year
1.) Brainstorm a list of organizations that you might be interested in working with.
2.) Present your choices to your adviser for approval.
Sophomore year
1.) Make contact with the organization.
2.) Fill out any applications or forms needed for volunteering at this organization.
3.) Start your service learning!
Junior year
1.) Finish your service learning.
2.) Complete your reflection on your service learning experience.
3.) Save your reflection in your folder for adviser review.
Senior year
1.) Use your experience from your service learning on college applications, job applications and/or internship applications!
